I'm very curious if cities are requiring people to register their garage/rummage sales with the local municipal offices.  I know a lot of cities are requiring it and issuing fines of up to $1000.  You'd have to make a lot of money from all of your rummage sale goodies to pay a fine like that and it's insane that this would be the case.

A lot of us are selling things just to make ends meet and I would be horrified if our municipalities punished us for trying to keep the lights on.  If your city requires a permit of some sort, please post it hear.  I'd love to keep a running tab of the cities that require this so we can know for future reference.

Have a great time selling and buying and let us know what you've picked up along the way.

Many of the cities in south east Michigan require a permit and the cost varies by city. Usually there is at least 1 day or 1 weekend a year where there is a "city-wide" garage sale and you don't need to get a permit if you have a sale on that day.
