When I first moved to Atlanta from NY, I search for a place to get a slice-many of the places used to only serve whole pies. This is the place I used to frequent, so the tradition continues. If you are between 18-28, this is the place to get your swag on. The reason?
Cheap pizza slices. I usually get the veggie slice, which is piled high with mozzarella and vegetables. However, the veggie slice, along with some the other selections I've tried at Fellini's, don’t remind you of any of the pizza from joints up East(believe it or not, good old NYC water gives a certain piquant to the dough). The pizza was pretty soggy, which means its either just a bad night or you have some amateurs in the kitchen, and this is after multiple visits. I have nothing against their staff of rebels, rockers and post-grunge twentysomethings, but making pizza dough is an art, and if you can’t do the time, don’t commit the crime of making crappy dough…it’s the foundation of a great slice! Pretty OK house salads. There's lots of ‘mootzarella’ in there, yaknowwhatimsayin?, and the house dressing is good also.
What Fellini’s has that other joints don’t is ambience. Great atmosphere, especially when you eat outside by the fountain. That Midtown, Pre-Virginia Highland scene is hip, artsy, and reflects what Atlanta should be about- outcasts and freaks, musicians and professors, republicans and libertarians, Emory basket weaving majors and Morehouse dress code policy makers, all sitting down for a slice.
